Carolina Gutierrez has died from a legal abortion. To quote part of the common pro-abortion bumper sticker, she died from a “safe and legal” abortion. She was survived by two small children and her husband.
She died because of malpractice at Killing Center in Miami, Florida. Soon after leaving the Killing Center, Carolina, as a result of her uterus being punctured during the legal abortion, developed an infection. Within hours she suffered fever and wracking pains in her abdomen and chest.
When she called the Killing Center, they hung up on her. Two days after the abortion, she called 911. The doctors said Carolina was suffering from blood infection so severe that she was in septic shock. Then, “celebrating” her twenty-first birthday, she got a hysterectomy. Subsequently, her lungs began to fail such that she was put on a respirator, and the infection lead to gangrene in her feet and fingers. The gangrene quickly caused her feet and fingers to turn black. In a futile effort to save Carolina’s life, the doctors amputated her legs.
Although the abortion industry readily lies that abortion is safer than childbirth, such incidents are far from rare. There are many reasons the public doesn’t hear of them. One concerns the legal term, “Standard of Care.” Across the nation, abortion providers fight hard in the legislatures to not have a Standard of Care for abortion. This is why: If there is no standard, then neither the poorest care nor the use of the most rusty, germ-laden instruments can violate a standard. Thus, there is no illegal malpractice. Across the nation, pro-lifers’ attempts to bring the Standard of Care of Killing Centers at least up to that of veterinary clinics are aggressively fought by the abortion industry. That is, the abortion industry fights to keep abortion a back-alley procedure.
According to Robert Allen, lawyer for the deceased’s family, “Since Gutierrez’s case became public, our law firm has received numerous calls from women who have developed complications following abortions. . . . Common elements of their complaints are: unsanitary conditions, failure to explain risks, . . . [and] no malpractice insurance. . . . In every case our callers had developed a life-threatening infection. . . . Sometimes as long as two years after their abortion, the women continued to have medical problems–constant pain, enlargement of the ovaries, even infertility.” But since the Standard of Care is so low, they couldn’t sue, so the public never heard of their maltreatment.
Abortion malpractice is far more prevalent than most people think. In spite of the great difficulty in suing, many women and families of deceased loved ones have sued. “Lime 5,” a new book by Life Dynamics, Inc. of Denton, Texas, documents with government records hundreds of appalling instances of abortion malpractice. The book makes it clear that, because reporting requirements are lax, not enforced, or non-existent no one can begin to calculate the number of women who suffer serious physical injuries from abortion. What’s more, the government relies on the perpetrators themselves to report their mistakes. Often in assembly-line fashion, the abortion procedure is rushed and accomplished in 8 to 10 minutes. Many times abortionists even have contests to see who can do the most abortions in a day. After standing on her feet for 8 hours, would you want to be an abortionist’s eightieth patient of the day while she uses surgical instruments no one has had time to wash?
